The first concert of the year takes place at the end of May or in early June. It is, in a way, an “appetiser” before the big summer festival. So far, it has been a concert presenting classical pieces interpreted by Quatuor Ebène and their guests.
It is the big annual musical event organised by “Au Fil Des Ondes.” It takes place over three days at the beginning of August in Vicq-sur-Gartempe and the neighbouring villages of Angles-sur-L’Anglin, Saint Pierre-de-Maillé, and Saint Sauveur. The series of concerts is created under the artistic direction of Raphaël Merlin, cellist with Quatuor Ebène. He is responsible for the final musical programming, guest musicians, and the creation of a technical support team. This festival takes place under the patronage of the prestigious musician, Michel Portal. Concerts in churches, village halls and also outdoors, in this original concept, enable the public to discover and appreciate the links between various musical worlds.
“Au Fil Des Ondes” organises “hands-on” experience of classical instruments and access to different kinds of music for young children in the schools in the Gartempe and Creuse area. The musicians are paid by the association and the service is completely free for participating schools. Teachers appreciate the originality of this initiative, the quality of the musicians and free access for children.
The cultural resources of the area are numerous and varied and members of the association enjoy discovering the heritage of our cities and villages. Recently, visits have been organised to Chauvigny, to see its chateaux and Romanesque churches, to Loches, to view the castle and the church (which possesses an organ of exceptional quality); to Poitiers to tour the museums, and to the village of Saint Pierre de Maillé.
